Suresh was in his X grade and was looking to do something in the field of arts and entertainment. His parents wanted to see if Engineering is an option that he can pursue. Instead of force fitting a choice onto Suresh, his parents came to our career coach along with Suresh for guidance.
Priya’s mother felt that she was being stubborn and will not listen to whatever is being said. Priya on the other hand felt her parents were being too strict and wanted to be left alone. Priya, now in 9th grade and her parents wanted to understand the choice of careers that will suit her.
Unlike the olden days where there were only few preferred and limited choices, today, there are more than 200+ options that students can choose for their careers. While this gives them a lot of options it also brings in confusion. What is the path that I need to take, which is best for me, what will suit my personality and nature are some questions that the students think about. This lack of clarity creates confusion and leaves them with frustration. Added to that, the parents may have their own choices for their children that may be different from the child’s choice and interest. As a result, there is conflict at home.
This is where our career guidance program can help the parents and students. We believe in the fact that the willingness to do a task or a job is important than the capability. Our approach of psychological assessments and a coaching session helps the students and the parents gain clarity about what careers the student will enjoy. In addition, the parents get to know more about their child and this helps in improving their relationship.
