What Are We Really Searching For?

What Are We Really Searching For?

What People Say They Want

A recent survey we conducted among 40–50-year-olds revealed something interesting: More than 70% said they want happiness and peace. Nearly 50% said financial constraints and career growth were the biggest barriers.

At first glance, it seems logical. But if money and career guaranteed happiness, then people who have both should be deeply content. Yet many openly share how unhappy and unsettled they feel.

So, the real question emerges: What is happiness? What is peace? And how do we actually become happy?

The Search for Meaning Begins Within

All of us are travelling through life looking for answers. But the most important journey is the inner journey — the one where we ask:

  • Who am I?
  • What truly matters to me?

Without these answers, even success can feel strangely empty.

The “If-Then-Else” Trap of Modern Happiness

Today, happiness has become a formula:

  • If I have money, I’ll be happy.
  • If I have a good job, I’ll be happy.
  • If I’m successful, I’ll be happy.

But when happiness depends on external conditions, it becomes a moving goalpost. You reach one milestone… only to create another. You come close, but never quite arrive. This is why even high achievers feel restless. Something essential is missing — inner clarity.

Life Gives You Many Bags to Carry

At some point, you must choose the kind of journey you want to undertake. Life hands you many “bags” to carry:

  • Relationships
  • Career
  • Health
  • Spirituality
  • Personal Growth
  • Parenting
  • Society

You can’t drop any one of them, and you can’t overload one while neglecting the others.

Why Balance Matters More Than Speed

Life is ultimately about balance:

  • A time for work
  • A time for play
  • A time for family
  • And most importantly — a time for yourself

When these don’t coexist, frustration, exhaustion, and anxiety naturally take over.

Start With the Right Questions

So pause and ask yourself:

  • What does happiness mean to me?
  • What does success mean to me?

And once you define them, don’t let those definitions control you. Bring clarity and priority back into your life by asking:

Why am I doing what I am doing?

Fulfilment comes from being true to yourself — not from chasing external expectations.
